For instance, in 2020, around 100 million shoppers used Augmented Reality for their shopping needs, and globally, 1 billion people engaged with Augmented Reality in some capacity. The XR market also boasts a robust startup ecosystem, with nearly 900 startups developing innovative solutions, and it employs more than 100,000 individuals. These statistics highlight XR's growing influence and its potential to reshape industries and everyday experiences. 

Let me provide some detail on Extended Reality.

Extended Reality, or XR is an umbrella term that encompasses technologies blending the physical and digital worlds. Its three main components are Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality. Each provides unique ways to experience and interact with virtual content.

Augmented Reality overlays digital elements, like images, text, or animations, onto the real world. Examples include mobile Augmented Reality apps like Pokémon GO or using Augmented Reality for virtual try-ons in shopping.

Virtual Reality creates fully immersive digital environments, cutting users off from their physical surroundings. This is widely used in gaming, training simulations, and entertainment through Virtual Reality headsets.

Mixed Reality goes a step further by allowing users to interact with digital objects integrated into the real world. Devices like Microsoft’s HoloLens enable real-time manipulation of 3D holograms.

I feel that XR is a game-changer in the digital revolution because of its transformative potential across industries. It enables immersive training in healthcare and engineering, collaborative virtual workspaces, and revolutionizes gaming and storytelling. By merging virtual content seamlessly with our lives, XR is redefining how we learn, work, and connect in an increasingly digital future.

Now let’s talk about the evolution of Extended Reality.

The journey of Extended Reality began decades ago, with each milestone paving the way for its current prominence. In 1968, Ivan Sutherland created the first head-mounted display system, often regarded as the precursor to modern XR devices. Known as "The Sword of Damocles," this early innovation introduced the concept of overlaying digital information onto the physical world. Fast forward to 1992, the term "Augmented Reality" was coined when researchers at Boeing developed an Augmented Reality system to assist with wiring diagrams. The mid-1990s saw the introduction of the Virtual Reality Modeling Language, enabling developers to build interactive virtual environments for the web.
