Because this is where Opus V makes its biggest leap. On Frontier Bench V0.1 Opus V scores forty three percent, outperforming Fable VPT 5.6 SOL, and more than doubling the score of Opus 4.8. That's not a marginal improvement, that's a generational jump. On GDP Val-AV2, a knowledge work benchmark, Opus V posts the highest score of any model tested. 1861, beating Fable V and GPT 5.6 SOL. And on ARC-AGI-3, a novel problem solving benchmark, OPUS V scores 30%, compared to OPUS 4.8's 1.5%. That's a twenty fold improvement in solving problems the model has never seen before.

Token Pricing And Efficiency Gains

Without the frontier price tag, Anthropic emphasizes that OPIS V delivers greatly improved performance for the same cost as OPIS four point eight. That means one, five dollars per million input tokens, two, twenty five dollars per million output tokens, three, a fast mode option running two point five times faster at double the price. But the real story is efficiency. On Cursor Bench, OPIS V performs within 0.5% of Fable V's peak score, at half the cost per task. On OS World 2.0, Opus V surpasses Fable V's best result at just over one third of the cost. This is the kind of optimization that signals a new era. Frontier level capability delivered at operational level cost.

Agency Through Verification And Testing

Agency, verification, and autonomous problem solving. One of the most striking parts of the announcement is how Opus V behaves when solving complex tasks. Anthropic shares several examples. One, when asked to rebuild a machine part in FreeCAD without being able to view the drawing, Opus V wrote its own computer vision pipeline to extract geometry from raw pixels. Two, when given a real bug in an open source package manager, Opus V not only fixed the issue, it identified and corrected an edge case the community patch missed. Three, when building a market data feed for a new exchange, Opus V created its own test harness when no live feed was available. Anthropic expects these classifiers to intervene eighty five percent less often than Fable V's. For biology, Opus V becomes Anthropic's most capable, generally available model, but still maintains strict safeguards around autonomous research. This balance, capability with constraint, is becoming the hallmark of responsible AI development.
